What is Public Health

According to the American Public Health Association, “public health promotes & protects the health of people & the communities where they live, work & play. While a doctor [or nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant] treats people who are sick, those of us working in public health try to prevent people from getting sick or injured in the first place. We also promote wellness by encouraging healthy behaviors.” Public health is wide reaching, and probably affects more of your life than you think! While the pandemic had placed more attention on public health, much of what we do happens in the background.
